Encouraged by his parents, he developed a love for visual arts, storytelling, and British history, often sketching and imagining scenes from the past. He attended grammar school in Barkingside in the late 1970s, excelling in English and Art before studying design at the London College of Printing Art School, where he mastered typography, layout, and emerging digital tools.
Entering the graphic design industry in the mid-1980s, Paul adapted quickly to the shift from traditional to computer-aided design. In 1998, he founded his own design business, producing branding, marketing, and editorial work for diverse clients. His attention to detail and innovative approach earned him a strong reputation, and he expanded his firm in 2015.
After more than 30 years in design, Paul transitioned to authorship in 2018, pursuing his passion for British social history.
